The United States, the West, and their North Atlantic Terrorist Organization
Exploring the History of Global Destabilization caused by the U.S. and its Allies
“To safeguard the freedom and security of all its members by political and military means.” This is apparently the purpose of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) when it was conjured in 1949 between 12 western nations. The formation of this organization followed a few years after the Nazi Party surrendered to the Soviets and the second World War had concluded. However, NATO’s creation wasn’t centered around preventing another imperialist Adolf Hitler-type from actively threatening the sovereignty of different nations. Oddly enough, its political and military rival was in fact the Soviet Union, the victors over the Nazis.
The stated purpose of this unnecessarily growing organization is nothing more than a farce given the decades of global destabilization at the hands of NATO’s most powerful and influential member, the United States of America. In this article we will explore the devastating impacts throughout the Middle East and the Global South caused by the United States with NATO’s co-signing and support.
Four years following the formation of NATO, the sovereign nation of Iran would suffer one of the earliest United States interventions in the Middle East after NATO was established. Under the leadership of then Prime Minister, Mohammad Mosaddegh, Iran was progressing as a secular, socialist nation with the goal to nationalize their oil industry. Iran posed no hostile military threat to any of the NATO nations, the security and freedom of these nation’s people did not require any safeguarding.
However what was under threat was the British monopoly over Iran’s petroleum. For this offense, the United States’ Intelligence Agency with British Intelligence instigated and backed a military coup d’etat against Prime Minister Mosaddegh. In only 4 days, Iran’s democratically elected socialist leader would be replaced by a religious monarch known as the Shah, Mohammed Reza Pahlavi. In 1954, a year after this intervention, an agreement called the Consortium Agreement would be ratified. This agreement provided Western oil companies 50% ownership over the very oil Mosaddegh aspired to nationalize, British Petroleum (BP) being one of the companies.
The ramifications of this action not only stunted the economic development of Iran but created an enemy out of the nation following the ousting of the Shah. An enemy to the United States and by extension NATO.
For over a decade, beginning in the 1968, the United States would conduct covert operations as well as instigate and support overt operations in opposition to left-leaning, socialist authorities throughout South America. These democratically elected leaders were replaced by right-wing authoritarians through a specific operation all for the purpose of disallowing communism to showcase its capabilities. This would be named Operation Condor.
This operation began by propping up and establishing intelligence centers within Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay, and Bolivia. Per General Robert Porter of the United States Army:
"[I]n order to facilitate the coordinated employment of internal security forces within and among Latin American countries, we are ... endeavoring to foster inter-service and regional cooperation by assisting in the organization of integrated command and control centers; the establishment of common operating procedures; and the conduct of joint and combined training exercises."
These countries' newly established intelligence agencies would meet on November 28, 1975, marking the “First Meeting of National Intelligence”. These agencies, with the support of the United States, would utilize military coups, kidnapping, and assassinations to impede and destroy the democratically elected leftist leaders.
In Argentina, President Juan Peron, who established the nation’s first social insurance system and was extremely pro-labor, would be ousted by the U.S. backed military junta. Following the ousting the U.S. would sell the Junta $120,000,000 worth of military parts and weapons as well as train the new Argentine military officers.
One of the more diabolical attacks against the socialist leaders in South America would be against Chilean President Salvador Allende. This intervention involved the assassination of the Chilean Ambassador to the U.S. Orlando Letelier. He was murdered via car bomb in Washington D.C. on September 21, 1976 along with an American colleague, Ronni Moffett. This assassination would be conducted by CIA-backed and forced replacement to President Letelier, Augusto Pinochet.
Operation Condor would see its conclusion following the fall of the Junta in Argentina during the Falklands War in 1983. The aftermath however left an estimated 60,000 deaths and many leftist exiled to various countries including NATO members such as France and Denmark. Similar to Iran, these South American nations were no threat to the NATO members’ security and freedom, yet the United States with no opposition from its allies would facilitate the destruction of at least 8 of these sovereign nations.
After a little over a decade into the 21st century, the United States with direct involvement from NATO would destroy one of Africa’s more self-sustaining and economically competent nations, Libya. Before the 2011 military intervention, Colonel Muammar Gaddafi during his 42 year reign would implement socialist policies to counter the economic devastation caused by the Senussi Dynasty, Libya’s leadership at the time who was favored by the British, controlled by the Saudis, and endorsed by the United Nations.
These policies would include nationalizing Libya’s oil reserves and focusing on the development of the Libyan citizens as opposed to catering to the West. Under his leadership, the National Oil Corporation (NOC) would be created as a socialist alternative to BP, and programs centered around education, health, housing, and public works would be implemented.
Despite the expected points of contention that stemmed from the estimated 140 tribes and societies within the country as well as Gaddafi’s arguably authoritarian means of controlling these different factions, before his assassination, Libya would have the highest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and life expectancy in the entire continent. And the prosperity he brought to the country was a prosperity he wanted to share throughout Africa as a Pan-Arab/Africanist.
This was entirely unacceptable to the United States and its NATO allies. A competent, African-centric, anti-imperialist socialist has been proven to be the West's worst nightmare. In the beginning of 2011, the West finally had their opportunity to destroy Gaddafi’s Libya.
The rebellion against Gaddafi in Benghazi was the opening NATO needed to initiate their tactic to overthrow Gaddafi. President Obama would authorize a covert operation with the CIA and British MI6 to fund and arm the various rebel groups against the Libyan military. These actions were coupled with the official NATO operation, Unified Protector, which included establishing a no-fly zone over the country, constant air strikes, and an arms embargo supported by the United Nations.
Utilizing heinous propaganda, such as the unfounded accusations that Gaddafi would give his military Viagra to promote rape as a military tactic against Libyan civilians, to get the world to hate Gaddafi, the United States and its allies would see their plan to oust the socialist, Pan-African leader successful. He would later be brutally assassinated by the very rebel groups supported by Western intelligence. Libya from that point on would fall deeper into turmoil overrun by various warlords and religious extremists.
Today, the veneer of a benevolent, competent NATO would be unveiled through both their failure to use the undemocratic, Nazi-sympathyzing country of Ukraine to destroy Russia’s economy and military power as well as their pitiful attempt to threaten the blockade against Israel initiated by the Houthi Muslim Military of Yemen. The world has been exposed to how shallow the might of the West really is, with NATO members disassociating themselves from the United States’ aspiration to do all it can to make sure Israel is able to conduct their ethnic cleansing of the Gaza strip. And with all this, it's time for us as citizens of the United States to dissuade ourselves of this idea that our leaders, and the West in general, operate globally as a bastion of good. Our protection is and never was a priority to them. The intended goal of this alliance, that benefited the United States the most, was to establish a Western economic and military dominion over the world and as all other empires throughout history, this too is destined to fail.
Gaddafi wrote his famous 'Green Book's that spoke about the plan to implement more socialist ideas and central planning in the country as well as usher in a democratic government.
